As y’all know, we planned on cloth diapering Knox. I was less than thrilled with the newborn fitted diapers I had rented, (that’s why I am SO glad I rented them instead of buying them!!) so I ended up sending them back early. I felt like he stayed wet in them, and he did not much care for them, either, as he showed me by yelping loudly every time he peed. We planned on using bumgenius 3.0 pocket diapers as our main diaper, but even though they are one size diapers, they were really big on him in the beginning. So, we decided to keep using disposables until he grew into the cloth diapers better.
Finally, the time is here! This weekend we started with cloth and I have to say, I LOVE IT! Besides being absolutely adorable, they are so much softer than disposables, you can make them incredibly absorbent based on what you stuff them with and Knox’s little butt stays dry. I am using a newborn insert during the day, which is efficient enough because we still change him at least 10 times a day. At night, I stuffed with a hemp insert and the newborn insert. It worked like a charm. We did have a small leak this morning, but I don’t think I had the diaper on tight enough. Plus, it was an inordinate amount of poop that would have, without a doubt, blown out of a disposable. At least the mess was contained- only a little pee leaked out from his leg. Anyway, I fixed that problem, so all is good with the world.
I will say that it’s kind of a pain to change him at work because I am trying to finagle removing the wet insert and getting everything into the wet bag. It’s WAY easier to do it over the diaper pail, but it’s not enough of a pain to deter me from using them. I’m sure it will get easier, too, since I’m just starting. I’m still trying to figure out what to do with the cloth wipes. Currently, I have a little spray bottle filled with water and a few drops of Burt’s Bees Body Wash, but I think I’m going to buy some of these Baby Bits to make a solution to keep them sitting in because they work better when really wet.
Now, look at this and tell me cloth diapers aren’t 5746 times cuter than disposables:
